Graduate School

The Wonkwang University Graduate School started in December 1967. Today, the graduate school encompasses 64 departments that offer masters and doctoral programs. The master's degree program has 279 students, and the doctoral program in 51 departments has 263 students. The goals of the Graduate School include: fostering creativity in academic research ; providing professional training that integrates knowledge with morality ; developing leadership ; and, contributing to the cultural development of the world. The school offers a range of financial assistance to support qualified graduate students. These include: scholarships, research assistantships, and BK 21 funds.

Graduate School of Education

The Graduate School of Education was founded in accordance with the educational principles of the University. It aims to train students in the field of education based on the latest research in educational theories and practices, to improve the professional ability of teachers, making them outstanding professional in their subject areas, ultimately to improve the quality of education at schools. It was accredited in November 1980, and started with 200 students in ten degreeconferring programs. It takes five semesters to complete all the requirements to earn a degree in 31 degree-conferring programs. Since its foundation, 2,231 students have graduated from this program. Graduates are awarded a teacher's certificate in secondary education (second-degree), are qualified to apply for doctoral programs, and are given credits for promotion in accordance with the by laws concerning teachers.

Graduate School of Industry & Business

The Graduate School of Industry and Management aims to train professional leaders who will contribute to the development of the nation and the world. The school teaches the theory and practice of industrial technologies and business management that students will need to work in and adjust to the constantly changing industrial and business environment. All classes are taught on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and the program can be completed in 5 semesters or two and half years. Graduates are entitled to apply for doctorate programs, and students are able to defer their army service enlistment until graduation. Scholarships are available for alumni of Wonkwang University, corporate employees, public employees, government officers, school teachers from private institutions, in the form of a 20 percent discount off their tuition.

Graduate School of Administration

This master's program is designed to produce capable administrators who possess both leadership and a capacity for creative thinking. The school also encourages and facilitates interdisciplinary researches by combining and linking various fields and subjects of study. The classes are conducted two nights a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays), and the whole program can be completed in five semesters or two and half years. The program also offers yearlong open-courses for top-level male and female administrators.

Graduate School of Oriental Studies

The graduate school was founded to imbue students with strong moral sense and comprehensive knowledge so that they can make valuable contributions to the nation and humanity when they graduate. It has amassed considerable achievements in Won - Buddhist studies, Buddhist studies, Oriental Studies. And it's creating new traditions in abdominal breathing, Oriental philosophy, yoga, calligraphy, Korean etiquettes, tea ceremony, and preservation and restoration of old paintings. The school is well aware of the vital role Oriental wisdom can to play in the moral education of today's society and is doing its best to train students to meet those needs.

Graduate School of Health & Enivironment

The Graduate School aims to systematically train students to become creative experts with academic foundations and practical knowledge of the field of health and environment. The school offers classes on Wednesday and Thursday evenings in 17 fields in three majors(Health, Health Administration and Environmental Sciences) in the master's degree program. The program can be completed in 5 semesters or two and half years.

Professional Graduate School of Oriental Medicine

The Professional Graduate School of Oriental Medicine was established in September 1999 to carry out BK(Brain Korea) 21 Project. It is designed to efficiently nurture professionals for a knowledge-based society of the 21st century. The School has several important aims : to study and develop theories that are needed to educate professionals in Oriental Medicine ; to apply these to the research and practice of the field ; to further the development of the field ; and, to make valuable contributions to the health and development of the nation and the world. The School also encourages research and development in Oriental Medicine and its applications to contribute to the development of the nation by hosting various research projects, conducting commissioned projects, hosting research presentations and extension lectures, and publishing scholarly journals.

Graduate School of Alternative and Complementary Medicine

Practiced mostly in developed countries, alternative medicine and complementary therapies complement and work with Western medicine. There is a great demand for skilled practitioners and high-quality research in this field. Alternative medicine, in addition to traditional medical cures, can also meet the need for comprehensive treatment of both the mind and body of a patient for rehabilitation. To create a more holistic approach and meet social demands, the school aims to conduct cutting-edge research to find new approaches that complement traditional Western medicine.
