University Main Library
The Library began in 1946 at the same time as the
establishment of Yuil-Hakrim. The present library
building was newly constructed in 1979. The building
occupies an area of 13,770m2, and is composed of
one basement and six floors. In 1984, Medicine(Phamacy)
library located on the first floor of Medicine college
building was newly constructed to supply fast access
of information for the users

University Museum
Established in 1968, The Wonkwang University Museum
was reopened in1987 in a 6,054§³ building(one basement
and four floors). The Museum, with the largest
scale in the nation, has a wide range of relics
including 90 items of the prehistoric age, and
a paekche Windbell. The Museum owns 16,000 items
in its collection, annual about 30,000 visitors.
Dormitory
The dormitories in this school have been divided
into four buildings: Hakrim-gwan, Kaebyuk-gwan,
saun-gwan and Chungwoon-gwan. The female student
dormitories can house 918 students, the male student
dormitories can house 712 students and the student
cafeteria has 870 seats. Each dormitory has bedrooms,
washroom, shower room, bathroom, etc and has other
facilities such as reading room, recreation room,
language laboratory, sports center etc, and has
a stationary and laundry room for the comfort
of the students. The dormitory with the 13th floor
only for male students is being newly constructed,
which can house 632 students, and is scheduled
to complete its construction on January, 2001.
Gymnasium
The original gym can accommodate about 2,000 persons
for the small and mediums sports events. The new
gym has one basement and three floors which can
accommodate about 12,000 persons.
The University Newspaper
The Wonkwang University Newspaper published its
first issue on October 20, 1956 and recorded its
899th issue on November 13, 2000 the Newspaper
prints 20,000 copies a week.
University Press
The university press, founded to publish valuable
books that will foster and contribute to the development
of research and culture, obtained authorization
from the Ministry of culture and information in
1971. It has published over 249 titles including
all the textbooks for required courses for freshmen
and faculty publications, as well as supporting
various research projects.
Academic Broadcasting Station(ABS)
Academic Broadcasting Station was established
on september 1st, 1971. It obeys the Broadcasting
Ethic Regulations and the national policy, Fastness,
Rightness, Public-spirit and Responsibility. It
is making efforts to create a new broadcasting
culture such as cooperation with other broadcasting
organizations. It is also operating the Internet
Broadcasting center since
Job Placement Center
Helping students to get jobs is a major concern
not only for the students but also for the university.
the university opened the Placement Center on
October 22, 1986. The center focuses on drawing
up long-term and well-coordinated strategies to
get more students better jobs.
Center for Science
The center maintains educational instruments and
equipment for academic scientific researches by
faculty, as well as for experimental uses and
practices by students. The center supports the
advancement of general scientific education.
Art Gallery
An art gallery could be a reflection of the moral
civilization of it¡Çs era. The University art gallery
collects and exhibits fine art works and provides
a place for cultural activities to students and
community. The Art gallery is a symbol of Wonkwang
University about a university of culture.
Center for Continuing Eduction
Center for Continuing Education is established
to realize the philosophy of social education
for the local people, in accordance with the social
changes, by motivating and promoting them an opportunity
of learning.
Center for Information Science Education
The Center for Information Science Education obtained
authorization in April, 1990. It is designed to
train professionals in information processing
which will play a significant role in the diversified
industrial structure of the future. It opened
courses of information processing, office automation,
and computer graphics. Students have chances to
intern for credit at various companies and organizations.
Special lectures about job interviews and exams
for national licenses are offered.
University computer center
The university computer center provides the 3A
system ?pen university? ?pen information? ?pen
service?to allow all university students and faculty
to have access to convenient and fast information
and hence operates a total university information
system (WINS-21) to transform into a 21st century
- intellectual campus overcoming the boundaries
of time and space. As the result we aggressively
support student education and participation and
provide volunteer educational programs for web
consulting and other field we come in contact
with to faculty members and local citizens. Especially
we have a educational support information system,
research information support system, student/administrative
support information system, total services information
system, digital campus acquisition information
system, local society information system, etc.

To digest the advanced information technologies
of the cyber era we are operating our university

Language Center
The Wonkwang University Language Center is offering
various language courses to actively address the
trend toward globalization. These courses are
intended for students to improve their foreign
language ability and for community members to
offer them the same opportunities. This will help
the international development of the community
and at the same time disseminate the founding
philosophy of WKU locally and worldwide. By offering
these courses the Language Center also hopes to
enhance knowledge and understandings of Korea
overseas and to contribute to closer ties with
colleges and universities worldwide on academic,
cultural and personal levels.
University Botanical Gardens
The botanical gardens are intended to be used
for studies in botanical science and to provide
research materials for those who work in the field.
the system was started in 1987, when the garden
of medicinal herbs was created. the system covers
an area of 20,000 pyong, which is composed of
Gardens i through IV, the aquarium, and a nursery.
It features various plants of 1,000 species in
190 families and 380 genera.
Student Service Center
The student service center was founded with the
modern facilities for a one-stop service system
to provide high-quality services by providing
information and administrative services on the
7th of September 1998. It is the place to solve
all kinds of problems the students face. Treating
students as customers and trying to simplify complex
paperwork and administrative service, we are striving
for the advanced education support system where
the students need not worry about anything except
studies and research.
Moral Education Center
Moral Education Center's purpose is to train moral
nature of professors, staffs, students, and ordinary
people in order to get harmonious character and
to bring up the leader of a new civilized society
who has moral philosophy and scientific knowledge,
based on the spirit of founding philosopy. |
